Growing up in suburban New York, I recall celebrating birthdays with cake, the Easter bunny with chocolates, and Christmas with presents. That was it. Not much preparation and over by bedtime. So, living in a place where there are full-on celebrations nearly every week, with planning that may go on for the whole preceding year and last for days and nights, takes some getting used to.
